I had a plan for this Easter: Naturally dyed eggs and write a free tutorial for you! Take nice photos for Instagram and use them to decorate our table for Easter Sunday (aka more pretty photos). Well, it just didn’t work out that way. I didn’t do enough research because I thought I didn’t need to! How wrong of me!
I boiled 15 eggs and the aim was to colour them in 5 different colours using vegetables like red cabbage, onion skins, spinach, blueberries and beetroot.
To cut the story short, the colours came out either too pale or too patchy. I was very disappointed & annoyed with myself. This was 2 weeks ago. However, I kept my ugly eggs in a box, for some reason, I just couldn’t throw away all the work I had put in it.
This weekend I opened the box and I realized, that even though I failed to make the beautiful eggs I had planned, the process thought me many lessons that I would like to share with you.
Most of the time we want to hide our failure from everyone and ourselves too. We are scared to be judged and to look foolish. Failure makes us feel disappointed, angry, insecure, demotivated, annoyed and more negative feeling. We want to give up and move one onto something else, easier, more predictable, something we are good at that we can show off to the world.
What about if we talked about our failures instead of hiding them and we celebrated them as part of our journey to grow, get better, work harder, be resilient! What’s wrong with making mistakes? I keep telling my daughters all the time: ‘it’s ok to make mistakes as we can learn how to do it better next time’.
As for my failed Easter project. this is what I have learnt:
1. don’t hide your failure, celebrate it!!!! 2. accept that failure it’s part of your journey to grow and become better 4. find new ways to do things 5. by sharing your failure you get so much support, help and tips from others #communityfirst 6. making mistakes can be fun!
So next time you fail, don’t be mad at yourself but find a way to celebrate it, as the greatest Albert Einstein said: “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new”!
Do you have a failure episode to share? Leave a comment below and let’s celebrate it together!
ps. #letscelebratefailure hashtag has never been used on IG till today! Let’s start using it more often!
