As a former interior designer, I’m always inspired by movies, books, and the world around me. And if there’s one show that perfectly captures the essence of 1970s boho decor, it’s Daisy Jones & The Six! After devouring Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel in just three days. I was beyond excited to see the story come to life on screen. But what truly captivated me—beyond the music and drama—was the stunning retro-inspired interiors. Filled with warm earthy tones, vintage furniture, and, of course, macrame home decor to die for!

The 70s aesthetic has been making a strong comeback over the past decade. More people embracing its relaxed, free-spirited vibe. From macrame wall hangings to woven textures and rattan accents, Daisy Jones & The Six serves as the ultimate inspiration for anyone looking to infuse their space with nostalgic charm. Let’s dive into how you can bring this timeless style into your home!

Macrame Wall Hangings

One of the most iconic macrame home accessories of the 70s is the wall hanging. Modern macrame is made with natural materials, mostly cotton. I try to use only 100% recycled fibres and features intricate knotwork and fringe. They were popular for adding a cosy, bohemian vibe to any room. Modern macrame pieces are still a great way to incorporate the 70s style into your home today.

To create your macrame wall hanging, you can join one of my face-to-face workshops or check out my signature online course, suitable for beginners, ‘Become a Confident Macrame Artist’ HERE.

Once you’ve created your wall hanging, it can be hung in a living room, bedroom, or even in a bathroom to add some texture to the space. In the summer, or if you live in a hot country, it can be used outdoors too.

Macrame Plant Hangers

Another popular macrame accessory from the 70s is the classic plant hanger. It was so popular that it was taught in a school too. These were often used to display hanging plants in macrame holders, adding a natural, earthy element to any room. You can find plant hangers in a variety of styles, from simple designs to more intricate, multi-tiered ones.

Macrame Wedding Backdrop

Macrame wedding backdrops have become increasingly popular in recent years, as more and more couples embrace the bohemian style for their big day. These handcrafted pieces can add a unique and personalized touch to any wedding ceremony or reception.

A macrame wedding backdrop can serve as a stunning focal point for your ceremony or reception, adding texture and interest to the space. You can decorate it with fresh flowers, greenery, or even hanging LED tea light candles to create a romantic atmosphere.

If you’re planning a DIY wedding, creating your own macrame backdrop can be a fun and rewarding project. In my book ‘Macrame for the modern home’ you can find the tutorial for a large macrame wall hanging. Also, a smaller macrame wall hanging that can be used as a chair back for the bride and groom.

Once you’ve created your backdrop, it can be hung behind your ceremony altar or even behind the cake table at the reception.

Alternatively, if you prefer to leave the crafting to the professionals. Feel free to drop me an email isabella@isabellastrambio.com. I will be honoured to create a unique piece for your special day.

Incorporating a macrame wedding backdrop into your big day can add a beautiful and unique touch to your ceremony or reception. Whether you’re going for a bohemian or minimalist look, a macrame backdrop can be customized to fit your style.
